A smattering of what SEEC has been, and is involved in funding.

Lets start with SEEC’s stated mission;

To support the preservation and protection of the natural environment, cultural resources, and compatible recreational opportunities within the Upper Skagit Watershed through reciprocal relationships with First Nations and Tribes, the fostering of international cooperation, building strategic partnerships, and
project funding.

On the website’s ‘Funded Projects’ page you’ll find many of the projects SEEC has funded. Here’s one from 2019 that has to do with water quality in areas known for their mineral extraction activity in the last 150 years or so. In July 2024 the Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council received funding from SEEC to conduct pedestrian and subsurface shovel testing along a segment of the Nlaka’pamux Skagit Trail that the NNTC had identified in the Upper Skagit River Valley in an earlier SEEC funded project in 2021-23. Finally, the following project is now approved, as of SEEC’s 1st Quarter meeting in June, 2025. The motion reads; “To approve BC Parks proposal for CAD$10K annually for fiscal years 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 for Punchbowl Pass backcountry campground, bridge and boardwalk…” To learn more about that meeting and also to see other meeting minutes and agendas, visit our ‘Public Notices‘ page.
