Arthropods are ideal study organisms because of their short generation times and rapid population growth. These characteristics make them ideal as early warning indicators of environmental change and for monitoring recovery at disturbed sites. The vast diversity of species offers the opportunity to integrate a number of sensitive indicator species into environmental assessments.
