For centuries the Nlaka’pamux inhabited their traditional lands in the Upper Skagit River Valley north and south of the border, summer and winter, but border issues, logging and the inundation of the Upper Skagit River Valley for a hydroelectric reservoir in the early 1950’s had had a major impact on the Nlaka’pamux access to their traditional resources in their southern homeland.
