The primary objective of the various studies was to update the data base for certain wildlife species (Barnard, 1986). Among the studies subsequently undertaken was the determination of the size of the 1986 deer population within the Skagit watershed.

A rainbow trout sampling program was conducted on the Canadian portion of the Skagit River between July 11 and 27, 1987. The program collected length data and scale samples from a total of 204 rainbow trout, 101 from the upper reach (Reach 2) and 103 from the lower reach (Reach 1), respectively by means of fly-casting .
