North Cascades Institute, Mountain School Journal, 1998
Mountain School is an outdoor education program operated by North Cascades Institute
North Cascades National Park. Students come to the North Cascades with their school
class, teacher, and parent chaperones to learn about ecosystems, natural history, and
cultural history of the mountains through immersion in the environment that they are
studying.

Target Audience:
1) Teachers working in the upper Skagit Watershed of British Columbia and
Washington . Workshops focus on 4th-8th grade educators, but information can
be adjusted for older or younger students .
2) Educators desiring to teach about wildlife and habitats of the Skagit
Watershed .
3) Youth leaders and educators who wish to incorporate amphibian education
into their environmental education activities .
4) Primary beneficiaries are children in schools throughout the Skagit River
Basin.

The Skagit Watershed Education Project is a cooperative program which helps elemer
teachers and children in the Skagit and Samish Watersheds understand issues and act
ties which affect water, fish , wildlife, and people within the Skagit River basin.
