The Wild Cascades is a publication of the North Cascades Conservation Council, Founded in 1957. The president was Patrick Goldsworthy. Patrick Goldsworthy was also a SEEC Commissioner at the time.

Hot issue news at the time with regard to the Upper Skagit was the controversial raising of the Ross Dam in Washington State, by an additional 125 feet. This was part of the Ross Dam build plan from the get go and it was designed to accommodate the height expansion, back in the 1940’s.
